Porta Potty Rental FAQ

Straight answers to the questions people ask before renting a porta potty in Fort Bragg and Mendocino County: booking, billing, units, cleaning, placement and pickup.

Booking and delivery

What information do you need to book a porta potty?

Give us the delivery address, the dates, the unit type, the number of units, the crew size or guest count, and a phone number for whoever will be on site. An email for the receipt is optional. That's all it takes to quote and schedule.

How far in advance should I book?

Book job sites 1–2 days ahead, events 2–4 weeks ahead, weddings 3–6 weeks ahead, and Fourth of July weekend 3–4 weeks ahead. Inside Fort Bragg, same-day delivery is usually possible when you call in the morning.

Do I need to be home when the porta potty is delivered?

You don't need to be there. Mark the spot with a cone or chalk, or text us a photo, and leave the gate open or the code in your booking. The driver texts a photo of the unit once it is set.

What time of day do you deliver?

Deliveries run during the day on our route for that area. We give you a drop window when you book and text when the driver heads your way. For events, units arrive the day before so timing never threatens your start.

Can I pick up the porta potty myself on my own trailer?

Customer pickup isn't offered. Units must be moved upright, strapped and kept level so the tank does not spill, so our crews deliver and collect every unit.

Can you deliver on weekends?

Most weekend events are dropped on Friday and picked up on Monday at no extra charge. Saturday delivery can be arranged for some events; ask when you book.

Do you deliver porta potties to campgrounds and parks?

Terra Porta Rentals delivers to campgrounds, parks, ranches and church grounds. Tell us the site name, the campsite or field number, and the gate details. State and regional parks may need their own permit, so check with the park first.

Who should be the on-site contact?

Name the person who will be at the site when the truck arrives, such as a foreman, event lead or homeowner. The driver calls them if a gate is locked or the spot is blocked.

Porta potty rental pricing and billing

Is the monthly price for a calendar month?

Long rentals bill every 28 days, not by calendar month. Each 28-day cycle includes weekly service. You can end the rental any time by calling for pickup.

Do I pay up front?

Event rentals are paid when you book. Job site rentals charge the first 28-day cycle at booking and each later cycle on its start date, to the card on file.

Is the pickup fee charged up front?

The delivery and pickup line is one round-trip charge shown on your quote. It is charged with the first payment, so there is no surprise fee at the end of the rental.

Can you text or email me the quote?

We can text or email an itemized quote while you're still on the phone. It lists the unit, delivery and pickup, service and tax so you can share it with a client or partner.

Do you work with budgets for nonprofits and churches?

Tell us the budget when you call. We can often fit it by adjusting the unit mix, sharing one delivery across units, or using Friday drop and Monday pickup. We'll show the options side by side.

Do you rent to contractors on account?

Contractors with ongoing work can set up an account with the card or invoice email on file. Each site bills separately on its own 28-day cycle, so job costing stays clean.

Units and supplies

Do you rent porta potties with a sink?

The deluxe flushing unit has a foot-pump sink inside the stall. For standard units, add a separate two-sink hand wash station beside them.

Is hand sanitizer included or extra?

Every unit includes a hand sanitizer dispenser at no extra charge. It is refilled at every service visit.

Do you have urinals in the porta potties?

Standard units have a built-in urinal beside the seat. That helps lines move faster at job sites and events with many men.

Do your porta potties have lights for night events?

Standard units have a translucent roof that lets in daylight but no lights. For evening events, light the path and the area around the units, or rent a restroom trailer, which has lights inside.

Do you rent dumpsters or fencing too?

Terra Porta Rentals focuses on portable restrooms: porta potties, hand wash stations and restroom trailers. For dumpsters or fencing, ask a local roll-off or fencing company.

Can you service a portable toilet I already own?

Terra Porta Rentals services the units we rent only. Servicing owned units means scheduling pump-outs we cannot always guarantee, so we suggest a licensed septic pumper for owned equipment.

Cleaning and service

What does a service visit include?

Each service visit pumps the holding tank, cleans and sanitizes the seat, urinal, walls and floor, adds fresh deodorizer, and restocks toilet paper and sanitizer. Flushing units and hand wash stations get refilled with fresh water.

Can I get an extra cleaning before an inspection or event?

Call or text and we add an extra service visit, usually within 1–2 business days and often the same day in Fort Bragg. Extra visits start at $65.

What if the porta potty is dirty when I need it?

Call us. If a unit is not usable between services, we send a technician as soon as a truck is free, usually the same or next day. If the problem was on our side, there is no charge.

Do porta potties freeze in winter?

Coast temperatures rarely get cold enough to freeze a tank. Inland sites like Willits, Covelo and Laytonville can freeze on cold nights. We add a salt brine to the tank on frost-risk sites.

Placement and site rules

How much space does a porta potty need?

A standard unit needs a level spot about 4 by 4 feet, plus room for the door to swing open and a clear path about 10 feet wide for the truck. Accessible units need about 6 by 6 feet plus a 60-inch turning space at the door.

How far can the truck carry the unit from the road?

Our crews can hand-move a standard unit a short distance on a dolly over firm ground. Long carries, stairs or steep slopes need a closer spot. Tell us the distance when you book.

Can a porta potty go on grass?

Units can sit on grass when the ground is firm and level. In winter or on watered lawns we use plywood pads so the unit doesn't sink or lean.

Should the porta potty face a certain way?

Face the door toward the users but away from neighbors, dining areas and the prevailing wind. On the Mendocino Coast that usually means away from the northwest.

Pickup, changes and damage

How do I end the rental and stop billing?

Call or text to request pickup. Billing stops on the day you call. We collect the unit within 1–2 business days.

Can I extend my rental?

Call before your scheduled pickup and we extend it. Event rentals turn into a 28-day cycle if they go long, with weekly service added.

What if a porta potty is tipped over or damaged?

Call us right away. We clean up and replace the unit. Damage from vandalism, fire or misuse is charged at repair or replacement cost; normal wear is on us. Details are in the rental terms.

Can I move the porta potty myself?

Please don't move units yourself. A full tank shifts and can spill. Ask and we'll move it on the next service visit at no charge if it's on the same site.
