Placement matters as much as the unit
An accessible unit only works on a firm, level route. Set it on pavement, packed gravel or plywood, never on soft lawn or sand. Keep a clear path from parking or seating, and leave a 60-inch turning space in front of the door.
The 2010 ADA Standards describe accessible turning space as a 60-inch diameter circle or a T-shaped space.
How many accessible porta potties does my event need?
The 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 require that where portable toilets are clustered at one location, at least 5% of the units, and never fewer than one, be accessible. A cluster of 10 standard units needs 1 accessible unit; a cluster of 21 needs 2. Construction-crew units are exempt under §203.2, but we still recommend one when a crew member needs it.
| Units in one cluster | Accessible units required |
|---|---|
| 1–20 | 1 |
| 21–40 | 2 |
| 41–60 | 3 |

Do you call these units ADA-compliant?
Terra Porta Rentals calls them wheelchair-accessible, which is how the manufacturer describes them. Whether a whole setup meets the ADA also depends on placement, the route to the unit and the ground surface, so we describe the unit honestly and help you place it well.
Can an accessible unit go on grass at a wedding?
Soft grass makes it hard to roll a wheelchair to the door. We set accessible units on plywood or a firm path at weddings, close to the seating, with the door facing the route guests will use.
